What to Purchase for the Most Simple Scrapbook

I remember the first time I looked at someone else’s scrapbook and thought, “I want to do that!” and also, “I think I could do that!”

I had seen other scrapbooks before, but they were usually more elaborate, and what got me interested in scrapbooking was seeing a very simple version for the first time in 1999.

Sometimes when we think about starting a scrapbook, it seems overwhelming to do that very first one. We may look at others that have been doing it longer, and think, “There is no way I have that much talent!” or, “I could never come up with something that elaborate” or most likely, “I don’t have the time for something like that.”

But, in reality, you can start scrapbooking in a very simple way that is not that time consuming, not that expensive, and not that hard!

My scrapbooking has definitely evolved since that time, but I started out very simple.

Here are some “essentials” that you can purchase just about anywhere to get you started on your very first album.

1. Start with purchasing a simple 3 ring binder that would fit 8 ½ x 11 pages.

2. Next, purchase clear sheet protectors that will fit in that binder that are made for the same size paper.

3. Purchase solid color cardstock packs such as these found at Walmart.com. Many times cardstock can be purchased in the 8 ½ x 11 size in a multi-pack.

4. Purchase a set or two of Alphabet stickers.

5. Purchase some adhesive such as a glue stick.

5. Last, purchase a good black scrapbooking pen. I love the Zig Writer pen because it has both a fine tip and a thick one.

That is really all you need! If you are scrapbooking a special event, like a graduation or birth of a baby, you could purchase some coordinating stickers found at your Local Scrapbooking store. However, in those first days when I was getting used to scrapbooking, I used very little embellishments.

Check back this week for more ideas on how to start that very first scrapbook.
