Scrapbooking Your Boy Scout Experience

With all the Scouting activities you participate in as a Boy Scout, it’s hard to come up with new page layout ideas.

Boy Scouts start with Tiger Cubs and can go all the way until Eagle Scout and beyond.

You might want to preserve every memory by creating a mini album and making page layouts for each individual activity. Since Boy Scouts do all types of activities from earning badges to helping with the community, an individual album for all of your memories would be perfect.

In addition, other’s might enjoy making one or two layouts per year and include them in the family album. You might want to just summarize your child’s participation in scouting, rather than including everything.

Regardless of what you choose, coming up with ideas can be a challenge from time to time. There are some great resources to look for layouts to get you inspired or simply so you can scraplift them.

Two Peas In A Bucket has a nice gallery and you can search by subject. Not only do they have a section specifically for Scouting, but they also have other sections for outdoors, fishing, camping, etc. So you are sure to find ideas to use on your different pages.

Dmarie is another great resource for scrapbook layouts. They have a gallery that is broken down into categories by people, places, events and more. You can do a search for what you are looking for, or just begin browsing.

Scrap Jazz, another really nice gallery of layouts provides a search tool as well as categories. You can search by theme, technique and actual member galleries.

Some helpful hints for scrapbooking scouting events:

  • Scan and print, or color-copy badges or awards your child has earned for use in your albums. You can cut them out and place them directly on your layout.
  • Use actual scouting materials as backgrounds or embellishments. In this layout I used the actual neckerchief that my son wore. I cut it apart and glued it in place. I have also used uniform material and insignia on my actual layouts.

  • Use the colors for that level when scrapbooking events. In this layout I chose orange and black for my son’s Tiger Cub pages. It makes it easier to navigate through the album and see what level he was at for each activity.
