Scrapping School Events

Catholic Schools Week kicks off in just a few days. The annual week-long celebration begins Sunday and runs through February 4th. My daughter’s small Catholic elementary school will join with Catholic schools throughout the country to mark the occasion. No doubt there will be plenty of pictures taken and the construction of a scrapbook will follow.

This year the national theme for Catholic Schools Week is: “Catholic Schools: An A-Plus for America.” My daughter’s school has its own theme and it will be highlighted in the memory book that will be created by the fifth grade class.

Even if your child won’t be celebrating Catholic Schools Week you can still design a school events scrapbook to enjoy now and in the future. Here are some ideas to help you get started:

School Colors

Consider using the school’s colors as a reoccurring theme in your scrapbook. Since they influence everything from football uniforms to cheerleading outfits, it’s safe to say that you won’t have trouble showing off the exact shade of the school colors. In addition, you can select scrapbook paper to mimic the school colors or enhance them. Consider bringing a photo of the colors to the scrapbook store, so you can get a decent match.

School Motto

Many schools have mottos that figure predominately into daily life on campus. Consider adding the motto to a page or using it as a title. You can use stickers to spell out the words or stamp them instead. Another idea is to use scrapbook chalk to spell out the title. I like to combine several different styles of epoxy letter stickers to create a title with a “ransom note” effect. You could also experiment with different fonts in Microsoft Word to make unique-looking titles. Another option is to use a label maker from an office supply store to create your title or apply rub on letters to the layout.

School Mascot

Don’t forget to include the school mascot in the scrapbook. The animal or character can have his own page, which can then be embellished with die cuts, stickers, or rub ons.
