Scrapping the Scouts

My 6-year-old daughter wants to join the Boy Scouts, just like her cousin. You can bet I would scrap that historical moment if it ever came to fruition. However, for now she will have to be content with helping me put the finishing touches on the mini scouting scrapbook I am making for my nephew.

This is by far one of the fastest books I have assembled thanks in large part to the abundance of Boy Scout-themed scrapbooking supplies available on the market. Frankly, I was surprised to see how many embellishments were out there, though my biggest shock was discovering that the Boy Scouts of America actually manufactures official scrapbooking products, such as albums and stickers. Some options include:

*Cub Scout stickers with popular phrases

*Boy Scout uniform stickers

*Scouting camp symbols

*Eagle Scout stickers with badge replicas and phrases

*Eagle stickers

I bought a few of the official merchandise and combined it with some of the leftover stickers, stamps and rub ones I had from when I made camping and outdoor activity layouts for other books. You could also use generic embellishments featuring horseback riding, fishing, hiking and archery.

If you are working on a mini memory book like the one I am making for my nephew, then I would suggest that you choose a simple theme to work off of as you will have limited space. For example, you could create a badge-themed scrapbook, which focuses on how your scout earned his badges. Another option is to focus on scrapping certain scouting activities, such as camping. You could also take this idea to a new level by placing the photos in chronological order to tell a story about the trip from beginning to end.

If you are short on time and resources, then look to the Internet for help. The World Wide Web is filled with dozens of websites that carry Boy Scout scrapbooking supplies, including Scout Stuff, Scrapbooking Alley, Scouting Books, and Scrapbooking Warehouse.
