Secrets of Walt Disney World: Volume #1

When you step into the borders of the Walt Disney World resort, it is almost as if you’re stepping into an entirely different world. Sequestered away from the troubles of the real world, it’s somewhat like stepping into a sort of odd inter-dimensional vortex.

And just like a fantasy world, there’s always secret passageways and treasure to be found. So, for your next trip to The World, here are a few secrets that you might not have been aware of before.

1. If you’re staying at a Walt Disney World resort and you have kids, you might find that they’ll enjoy the free bedtime stories delivered via your hotel room television from 7 – 10 p.m. Check your in-hotel guide for the correct channel or call the front desk.
2. You never know where you might find your favorite Disney fairy. If you find yourself within Tinkerbell’s Treasures, a princess and fairy themed shop just beyond Cinderella’s Castle in Fantasyland, take a peek inside the keyhole of the dressing table near the door. You might just catch a glimpse of Tink inside.
3. A few years ago, Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride was replaced with The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh. During the ride, just as you enter Owl’s house, you might notice Mr. Toad giving Owl the deed to his ride.
4. At the Disney-MGM Studios, pay close attention to the Indiana Jones portion of The Great Movie Ride. If you take a close look at the hieroglyphics, you might notice two other George Lucas characters, C-3PO and R2D2, within the painted hieroglyphics.
5. If you make your way through the gates of Cinderella’s Castle and to the front of Cinderella’s Carousel, you’ll find the famous “Sword in the Stone” from Disney’s animated film of the same name. At various time throughout the day, there is a ceremony where one lucky guest is allowed to attempt to pull the fabled Excalibur from the stone. Check your Magic Kingdom daily events guide for scheduled times.

Of course, these are but a few of the many secrets within the Walt Disney World resort. To list all of the secrets within the parks would be quite a task. However, I’ll be sharing more of these in the days, weeks and months ahead, so make sure to bookmark the Families.com Unofficial Disney blog’s main page.
