Semi-Homemade Marinara Sauce -Shhhhh…I won’t tell

Who doesn’t love a good spaghetti sauce? Pair it with some homemade meatballs and you’ve got yourself a meal made in heaven! A good marinara sauce pairs well with many foods – pasta of course, chicken parmigiana, chicken cacciatore, and as a pizza topping to name but a few. But who has time these days to make a homemade sauce from scratch? Make a batch of this semi-homemade marinara sauce and you’ll have the starter ingredient for meals that can last you through the week.

This recipe, which combines a jarred sauce with some kicked-up help from you, will leave your family and friends wondering how on earth you found the time!

Ingredients:

1 jar of your favorite spaghetti sauce
1 can chopped tomatoes
1 package Spaghetti Seasoning from the spice aisle (any brand)
10 dashes Worcestershire Sauce
2 teaspoons Kosher salt
½ teaspoon black pepper

To Make:

Combine all ingredients and stir. Bring to a boil over med-high heat and continue to cook 15 to 30 minutes. Combine with pasta or spoon over individual portions.

Tips:

The Worcestershire sauce in this recipe adds a delightfully different sweetness to your sauce that will leave your friends guessing. This sauce is delicious with additions such as red onions, fresh mushrooms, or meatballs. For onions or mushrooms, simply melt 1 TB butter or olive oil in pan and add chopped onions or mushrooms. Cook for five minutes, then add remaining sauce ingredients and cook as directed above. If adding meatballs, add after you’ve combined the other ingredients and stirred the sauce to avoid breaking down the meatballs. Cook as directed above. A splash of balsamic vinegar and a pinch of sugar will heighten the flavor even more. But be careful – too much vinegar isn’t a good thing – only a little dash!
