The Sony Playstation 3 has got to be one of the best video game systems out there, especially with its coveted Blu-Ray DVD player. Unfortunately, though, out of all of the popular video game systems, the Playstation 3 is probably the one with the most violent and bloody games. There are probably only a handful of games that are appropriate for children.
If you do have young children (or even older ones) in your home, you should probably set up the parental controls for your system. Here is how to do just that.
Unlike the other popular video game systems, the Sony Playstation 3 does not use the rating system from the Entertainment Software Ratings Board. Instead, the Playstation 3 relies on a series of numbered ratings, from 1 to 11. This can be very confusing for parents. In general, level 5 is about the level of the T for Teens rating, but parents should still explore the games before deciding on the appropriate level to allow access for their children.
Start up your Playstation 3 and enter the main menu. Scroll to the left to the “Settings” menu. It is the icon that looks like a little tool box or suitcase.
Next, you will need to scroll down to the “Security Settings” menu. The icons for this menu are a wrench and a keyhole.
Once you are in the “Security Settings” menu, you will need to scroll down again and select “Parental Control.” It is the second option from the bottom and has a wrench icon.
In the “Parental Control” screen, you will be prompted to enter your password. If this is the first time you are accessing parental controls, enter the default Playstation 3 password. It is “0000.” You will then have access to setting up parental controls.
