Share the Blessing

Earlier this year my husband bought me a beautiful handbag of blue and purple silk. Wherever I go people admire this unique bag. Not only is it beautiful but it is a way to help people, as money from the purchase goes to help poor women in Vietnam.

Then for mother’s day one of the gifts from my daughter and son in law was a box. I love boxes. This one is covered with teal silk and embroidered with gold peacock’s feathers decorated with blue and purple beads. Yes, you can probably guess by now my favorite colors!

The box is not only beautiful But money from sales of the box and other purchases made from Oxfam shops go to help those in poor countries make a living.

Sometimes we may grumble about the price of gas and groceries going up all the time. We fail to realize how blessed we are compared to those in third world countries who struggle to even have enough food each day or clean water. We take so much for granted.

Even if times are hard for us, I’d suggest they don’t compare with the struggles some people are going through in this world.

Stop for a moment and think of the blessings you have in your life. Make a list. You’ll find as you start, you end up thinking of more and more things to be thankful for. As you look down your list of blessings, think about those in poorer countries. Consider how few of these blessings people in the other countries have in their lives? Then pray.

It may be there is something the Lord is asking you do, some sacrifice in your life, something you may need to give up so you are able to help those in need.

Remember too that the poor and needy are not just in these countries overseas. They can be right on our own doorstep. Their need might be financial, it might be emotional or spiritual or a combination of any or all of them. It might require a gift of money, love, emotional support, prayer or time spent with them. What is God prompting you to do today to help the world’s poor and needy?
