Showing Dedication while Traveling

During this past week my husband and I were traveling in New York. While we were in New York we took the occasion to attend church service. This experience made me think of the opportunity to show one’s family (especially children) the importance of God and the worship of Him.

Many things in life can be distracting when it comes to the Christian’s walk in life and one of those ‘things’ is vacation or travel. While traveling there are many things that Christians can do as a family to keep God in focus.

Prayer
There is always time to pray to God; however, vacationing can bring up opportunities to pray to God for a few things that one might not normally pray about. As a family Christians can pray for safety in travel and for the opportunity to be a shining light to people that they do not normally encounter. First Thessalonians 5:16-18 states: “Rejoice always, pray without ceasing, give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus for you.”

Bible Study
Think of the impact that would be made on a child whose parent brings their Bible on the trip. Space can definitely be limited when you are traveling, especially if you have a larger family. Making room for your Bible (and of course using it) while traveling definitely shows a devotion to God and His Word. The impact would be even greater if the entire family took fifteen minutes of each day while on the trip to read a passage from the Bible.

Attending Services
Finding a place to attend services while traveling is not always an easy task. I know that often times when my husband and I have been traveling we have looked up locations in the phonebook and spent some time driving around looking for the location. Taking the time out of one’s vacation to not only attend service, but to also take the time involved to find the location conveys the significance of worship to God.

Each day that one is blessed with in life should be taken as an opportunity to share God’s Word with others, as well as an opportunity to grow spiritually. It is important to remember that the Christian’s life revolves around God. Vacation brings the unique opportunity to show a commitment to the Lord that is outside of a family’s normal daily schedule.
