Sick Days

As a single mother calling in sick just isn’t an option. Well you could try, but I have a sneaking suspicion your kids wouldn’t buy it! Whether you are sick or not you still have to be a mother. Somebody has to care for your children and you no longer have the luxury of having someone else there to pick up the slack when you are feeling a bit under the weather. Being a mom takes a lot out of you period, but when you are sick on top of it, even the smallest of tasks drain you.

Inevitably, we all will be sick every once in a while. However, there are things you can do to help boost your immune system and take care of your body so you can avoid these sick days as much as possible.

Make sure you are getting enough sleep. If your body isn’t getting the rest that it needs it is unable to fight off infections with the same power as it does when you are well rested. They have also found a link between not getting enough sleep and your susceptibility to the common cold and the H1N1 virus. Not to mention you are able to deal with every other aspect of your life with much more ease if your body has gotten the rest that it needs.

Eat a well balanced diet. Adding fruits and vegetables to any diet helps improve health. Eating foods high in antioxidants will help boost your immune system and will help your body ward off dangerous infections. Some foods that are high in antioxidants are: berries, apples, broccoli, carrots, nuts, sunflower seeds, kiwis, strawberries, nectarines, oranges, spinach, and so many more. There’s bound to be some that the whole family will like.

Taking a daily vitamin can also make a big difference when it comes to your health. Most of us don’t think twice about whether or not we got enough Vitamin A, C, or E today. By taking a multi-vitamin you are helping to ensure that your body is getting the recommended amount of nutrients it needs to stay healthy.

As a parent it is easy to forget about your health sometimes. You get so caught up in worrying that your kids are getting the things that they need that you forget about yourself. Remember the healthier you are the better you will be able to take care of your kids!
