Simple Storage Idea: Lattice

Have you ever thought of using outdoor items inside your home? Maybe you have. Have you thought of using exterior accessories and products to create storage solutions in your home? I never really did until recently.

I saw a great idea that used a garden trellis to create hanging storage, and I thought, “Wow, that looks so much nicer than pegboard.” This led me to think about other options and I decided that lattice with smaller cross hatching would work even better.

Lattice is available in many decorative styles and it can be painted or stained any color you like to match other elements. You can find a lattice pattern to work with any design style, but typical straight lattice would look cute in a Country, Cottage, English Garden, or Shabby Chic room, or in a child’s room.

Straight Lattice

Lattice is not just a more attractive alternative to pegboard; it is also quite functional. You can hang nearly anything from it with “S” hooks, wire, ribbon, mug hooks, or you can purchase or make decorative knobs to screw into the wood.

It can be used for storing accessories, toys such as Beanie Babies, a baseball cap collection, or sporting gear. Another great use would be applying lattice to one wall inside the closet to hang jackets, scarves, hats, belts, and other accessories where they will be handy.

Lattice would also be perfect in the kitchen for utensil storage, displaying a collection of antique kitchen gadgets, or organizing gadgets that you actually use to keep them within reach but up off the countertops.

I plan to purchase some plain lattice for my kitchen, to make an attractive wall of storage. I think I might get some of the fancier stuff for the kids’ rooms. I’ll be sure to let you know how these projects turn out, and please let me know if you try it or if you have other ideas to share.
