The idea of creating page after page of eye-popping scrapbook layouts featuring the latest and greatest embellishments can be an overwhelming proposition for most beginners. Fortunately, you don’t have to strain your brain to come up with unique scrapbook design ideas. Instead, look at ordinary items for inspiration, from greeting cards to magazine ads, catalogs to commercials. The resources are filled with ideas for color combinations, journaling themes and famous quotes.
When in doubt stick with a familiar design that can be customized with a few personal touches. For example, if you’re making a summer vacation album, you might consider creating a photo collage for the title page. Collages are great ways to use up leftover pictures that you couldn’t fit in other layouts. If you have several photos, but are limited to a small space to arrange them, then crop them with a square or circle punch, and place them in a grid formation. Just remember to leave a small space at the bottom to write your title.
This same technique can be used when creating a digital scrapbook. In fact, photo collages are easier to design when you are working on a computer since you are able to manipulate the images with ease. For instance, if you are looking to make a collage pop, then convert all the pictures to black and white, and then add color to specific areas that you want to highlight. You could also add digital frames around certain photos in your collage to make it stand-out.
Finally, consider experimenting with the text tool in your image editing software to create photo captions. This is where you can really flex your creative muscle by adding funny quotes or interesting facts about the photos you are featuring in the collage and how they are relevant to the overall theme of the book.
