Single Parents Simplify Your Evenings

This week I started another class to complete my Masters Degree. After working for nine hours I make my way to class and attend until ten o’clock. It is two nights per week. On my non-school nights it is so important to me to make the most of my time with the kids. Sure there is always the housework to get done and dinner to get on the table but kids like to be entertained and have fun. Finding the energy to do something “fun” with the kids is not always easy, especially when trying to keep up with a demanding work and school schedule.

Some things I like to do with the kids would be visiting educational websites or board games as mentioned in my [previous entry]. When you are tired after work it is so important to find ways to simplify your to do list for the evening so that you have time to devote to fun activities with the kids. One tip I suggest is making dinner ahead of time. It can take sometimes one-hour in the kitchen in the evening to make dinner. When you only have two or three hours to spend with your children in the evening that is precious time and the last thing you want to do is be stuck in the kitchen. Try making meals on the weekend and freezing them. Also, if you have some extra time in the morning, try to prepare as much ahead of time as you can so that when you get home your load is lightened. This really helps me out a lot. I am able to feed the kids a healthy meal but not spend all night in the kitchen. Crock-pot dinners work great as well.

I will be doing a series of easy dinnertime meals for the single parent each week so check back. If you have an interesting recipe to share as well I would love to hear it!
