I just got back from spending several weeks in Hawaii (where it was sunny and 84 degrees all but two days during our entire trip) and the last thing I want to do right now is strap on a pair of skis and spend time in the bone chilling cold. However, according to my brother this is the best time of the year to head off on a ski vacation especially if you are salary is not as lofty as the most popular ski hills.
He’s right. I found several incredibly affordable ski deals that are still available—despite the fact that Easter is just two weeks away.
LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA
Northstar-at-Tahoe is offering a Stay & Ski free package, which includes one night in a studio condo and two lift tickets. (The lift tickets can be exchanged for two cross-country trail passes or two $25 resort gift cards if you don’t ski.) In addition, you will have access to the resort’s Swim and Racquet Club recreation center, which features a fitness area, a pool, a spa and a children’s game room. The studio units have a queen-size Murphy wall bed and rates start from $103 per person. The deal ends May 1, 2008.
STEAMBOAT SPRINGS, COLORADO
This is an exceptional deal for families or larger groups. You’ll stay at a roomy three-bedroom town house, which sleeps up to 10 people. This particular home is located about 17 miles (a 20-minute drive) southwest of Steamboat Springs and overlooks the Stagecoach Reservoir. Amenities include two and a half bathrooms, a full kitchen (complete with an ice maker, a coffeemaker, and a waffle maker), a washer and dryer, an indoor hot tub, and two gas-powered fireplaces. Plus, wireless Internet access, a cable TV, a CD player, and a collection of DVDs and games are at your disposal. Rates start at $150 per night, or $900 per week. A minimum three-night stay is required. Click here for availability.
TETON VALLEY, IDAHO
The Early Bird Special at the Teton Springs Lodge & Spa includes one night in a standard room for just $129 per night. However, you can upgrade to a one-bedroom suite for an additional $70 per room and by doing so you’ll receive two free ski-lift tickets to the slopes of the family-friendly Grand Targhee Resort, 22 miles north of the hotel, or to the more challenging Jackson Hole Mountain Resort, 24 miles east of the Teton Springs Lodge. If you opt for a two-bedroom suite for an additional $170, you’ll get four lift passes. Continental breakfast, delivered to your room, is included. The deal ends April 15, 2008.
