Smart Grass Seed

grass In order to “go green” and help protect our environment, our lawns sometimes wind up brown, due to lack of water and lack of fertilizers. Did you know that there is an actual green paint that can be placed on a lawn to make it look lush and healthy? And in some areas, homeowners are encouraged to eliminate the lawn altogether, replacing it with stone or other materials. But innovations are always out there to improve our homes. A brand new grass seed product is out in retail stores this spring.

The makers of Pennington Smart Seed claim that their grass will grow full and lush on 30 percent less water and uses fertilizer much more efficiently when compared to traditional grass seed.
How is this possible? Pennington Smart Seed was creates using two strategies. The first is seed that is selected for its drought resistance. That makes sense, right? So what sets it apart from other drought-resistant brands of grass seed? The second strategy is a coating of mycorrhizal fungi. These are tiny microorganisms that aid the grass in absorbing more moisture and nutrients than the grass roots can do all by themselves.

Just as with other grass seed, there are different varieties of the Pennington Smart Seed available for purchase. Tall fescue, the classic lawn grass is represented, along with the popular, Kentucky bluegrass. Perennial rye, Bermuda grass (for warmer climates), fescue-bluegrass, sun and shade, and dense shade mixtures are also available for purchase. A three-pound bag of Pennington Smart Seed retails anywhere from $11.98 for perenial rye to $15.98 for Kentucky bluegrass.
