According to the American Humane Society, the Persian cat has been the most popular cat breed in America since 1871.
Frankly, I don’t like cats. They scare me. Well, only the cats that are seriously overweight and have the tendency to stare a person down. (Is that most cats?)
Kittens I love because they are so cute and cuddly. But after that cute stage I would rather not be around them.
When I was a little girl around 4 or 5, my grandmother took me to visit a friend of hers who had a black cat named “Poo”. For some reason both her and her friend kept telling me not to pull the cats tail. I don’t know why they would think I would do so but after 6 reminders I did the only natural thing- I pulled the cats tail. Nothing happened and I thought it was funny. So I pulled the cats tail again. And wouldn’t you know it, this little devil scratched the mess out of me. I was bleeding like I’d just been in a fight and I had scratched all over. I cried and cried about how mean the cat was.
“Did you pull its tail?” they asked.
“No” I said.
But that’s not where it ends. There’s the story of when I was about 14 and 3 cats tried to attack me. (No, I didn’t pull any tails). But no one ever believes that story so I won’t tell it.
But let’s get back to Persians.
The Cat Fanciers Association says that Persians are sweet and gentle creatures. They have pleasant voices and communicate heavily with their eyes. Because of their long coats, they must be kept indoors and brushed daily.
They come in 7 color varieties which are:
• Solid Color Division
• Silver and Golden Division
• Shaded and Smoke Division
• Tabby Division
• Particolor Division
• Bicolor Division
• Himalayan Division
I’ll admit it, Persians are pretty cute. But I still have nightmares of 3 cats surrounding me ready to attack. I’ll just stick to loving dogs.
