The Special Needs Podcast Roundup went up on March 5, 2012.
This week, I’d like to point out an episode of Raising Arizona Kids Magazine called “A conversation with Kaitlin MacKay”. She received a traumatic brain injury when she was hit by a car in an intersection near her college in San Luis Obispo, California. She talks about her journey of healing.

Study Connects Snoring to Behavioral Problems
A study found that kids who have sleep-disordered breathing symptoms are at an increased risk of developing behavioral and emotional problems later on. This includes developing ADHD. The researchers suggest parents pay close attention to how their child is sleeping. There are some treatments for sleep-disordered breathing, depending on what, specifically, is causing it.

Study Says ADHD is Over-Diagnosed in Youngest Classmates
A study done by researchers in British Columbia found that the youngest children in classrooms were much more likely to be diagnosed with ADHD. It seems that there is some confusion about how to separate symptoms of ADHD from the immaturity that a younger student will exhibit, (when compared to older peers).

Autism On the Seas Launches First Special Needs Cruise
There is a group called Autism On the Seas that creates vacation plans for individuals and families who have been affected by autism, Asperger’s Syndrome, Cerebral Palsy, and all cognitive, intellectual, and developmental disabilities. Together with Carnival Cruise Lines, they have created the first cruise designed for people who have special needs.

College Cuts Reduce Teachers in Disability Program
Cuesta College, in San Luis Obispo, California, has decided to cut two positions from their special needs program. Those teachers will be pulled from the students who need them, and placed into other teaching positions (in other programs). The reason for this has to do with a cut to the funding for the special needs program.
