Special Needs Podcast Roundup – Week of September 20, 2011

iPod Each and every week, the Special Needs Podcast Roundup scours the internet in order to locate interesting, newsworthy, new episodes of podcasts that would be relevant to parents of children who have special needs. This week, I have new episodes of your favorite podcasts, and a podcast that has never been mentioned in the Roundup before.

Rethink Autism is a group that focuses the Applied Behavior Analysis that is used as an intervention treatment for children who have an autism spectrum disorder. They have video based lessons that can help parents to do ABA with their child.

In addition to their lessons, Rethink Autism also has a “Tip of the Week” video series. The most recent episode was released on August 30, 2011. It is called “Autism Tip: Preparing for a Successful Academic School Year”. This is a quick, helpful, easy to understand video that parents can use.

The Coffee Klatch has an episode that was released on September 14, 2011. This episode is called “Dr. David Russ – Turning Anxiety around in children”. Dr. Russ talks about the causes and presentations of child anxiety, and how his program that can help with that. His program is called “Turnaround: Turning Fear Into Freedom”. It is designed to help your child break free from their fear.

Need Project has an episode that was released on September 14, 2001. This episode is called “Celebrating Need Project’s 5th Anniversary!” They celebrate five years of serving families in the special needs community, and they look back on their proudest moments so far, and a glimpse of what is ahead for Need Project’s future.

Family Health Radio has two episodes that were posted in September of 2011 that are relevant to parents who have children that have certain types of special needs.

“Sinus Infections” is the name of an episode that gives information about what sinus infections are, and how they can be treated. If your child has environmental or respiratory allergies, then this is exactly the type of information that you will need, (several times a year).

“Noise- induced hearing loss” is the name of another episode. This one gives details about the amount of noise that can cause hearing damage. This is something to really think about!

Dr. Henry Ukpeh has a new episode that was released on September 19, 2011. This episode is called “A Parents Perspective”. He talks with Laranna, a parent who had the experience of learning that her daughter had some health conditions. Her daughter was sent to a Children’s hospital six hours away from where they lived. Laranna talks about what this is like, from the perspective of a parent.

Hope Saves the Day has an episode that was released on September 19, 2011. The episode is called “What Do You Think About?” This episode includes discussion about children with autism gastrointestinal symptoms, a story about a seven year old boy who was missing (and found), and host Paul’s experience with a rude bus driver.
