Organization is the key to productivity, or so the old saying goes. So how do you get organized when you have very little to spend on storage? Is there a way to accomplish an organized system and not spend a lot?
Certainly. The key to spending wisely is knowledge. Knowledge is power. Another one of those old sayings.
Begin my taking note of what needs to be organized. Don’t just make a list that says ‘small embellishments’ or ‘paper’. What you need to do is pull each category apart. Not only do you need to count brads and eyelets, but metals and buttons and fibers and other items that are classified as small embellishments.
Paper isn’t just patterned. There are all types: patterned paper, cardstock, textured, mulberry, vellum and other specialty types. Are you planning to store all of these together by color, or are you going to separate them. You need to know these things before hand, and yes you need to record them onto a piece of paper.
The next step in the game is to figure out what you already have as far as storage. Analyze how it is working for you, and if it isn’t; get rid of it. Storage doesn’t have to be expensive, and you can use all types of things to get organized; some items might not have even been designated as storage originally.
After you know what you have available to you already, you can now analyze what you still need. The key to any storage is looking at how long you will be able to use it. Are you already maxed out on the type of storage you are considering? If so, consider a different method to store that particular item, or if you can separate it into more defined categories and store those separately, that can work too.
Be sure to always be aware of what you have, what storage and organizational methods are or are not working for you, and what you need to buy. Remember also to start out slowly and buy a few things at a time. This will help you save your money and not spend it on storage that won’t meet your needs.
