Spice Up Your Halloween Layouts

Despite the miles in between

Happy, happy Halloween!

Not exactly Shakespeare, but it ties in well with my “Ghouls Just Want to Have Fun” page title.

I’m rushing to put together a double page Halloween layout for my great aunt’s 90th birthday scrapbook. I’m in charge of creating half of the holiday-themed pages, while my sister-in-law has to come up with designs for the remaining holidays and major occasions, such my birthdays and family reunions. Right now I am working on Halloween. The layout has to include all of the youngest members of the family, as well as photos from when the nieces and nephews were kids.

Since I am a bit light on fabulous photos I had to dig deep to spice up the pages. In addition to the aforementioned rhyme, I also added Nancy Sesok’s “Halloween Just Can’t Be Beat” poem to one of the pages:

Dark night, moon so bright,
What a scary Halloween sight.

Black cats, flying bats,
Witches wearing pointy hats.

Ghosts are scary, monsters hairy,
A girl’s dressed up like a fairy.

Eerie sounds, pumpkins round,
Spooky things are all around.

Running feet, a tasty treat
Halloween just can’t be beat.

In addition to the poems and holiday appropriate titles (including: “Chills and Thrills”, “Spooktacular Fun”, and “Bewitching Beauties”) I also printed out some skeleton graphics and used leftover spider and pumpkin-printed fabric to frame some of the pictures. Finally, I used some leftover plastic googly eyes and glitter glue to create a haunted looking tree complete with hanging bats and spider webs.

Note: If you plan to use non-traditional scrapbooking materials in your layout, remember to spray them with acid neutralizer prior to adding them to the page. I made the mistake of skipping this step when I added a ticket stub to a pervious page and now the layout has to be redone because of discoloring.
