You’d never know that Halloween is still more than a month away by strolling through my local scrapbook supply store. The tiny shop is filled with thousands of spooky Halloween-related supplies. Anything and everything you could possible image using to spice up your holiday page designs is on sale; unfortunately, much of it doesn’t come cheap.
I fell in love with some amazing seasonal products, though most are not in my budget. Fortunately, if I hold off long enough I might be able to pick them up for reduced prices at post-Halloween sales. If not, I plan to utilize every day items to jazz up my seasonal layouts.
One of the cheapest ways to add eye-popping effects to Halloween layouts is to download embellishments for free from select scrapbook websites. Otherwise, stay within your budget by saving invitations you get to Halloween parties. You can cut out the colorful graphics and specific letters to make a ransom-themed page design.
Another affordable option is to spread out all of the candy you are planning to pass out on Halloween and take a close-up photo of the edible loot. Then, use the photo at 30 percent opacity as a background for your Halloween scrapbook layout. If you have extra time, you could also decoupage candy wrappers onto a chipboard tag to make a colorful accent for your layout.
If you have an artistic teen, ask him or her to draw you a spooky Halloween scene to feature on a page or two. You could also add foam sticker bats and fake spider webs (which you can accent with glitter) to the corners of your Halloween-themed layouts. Or, splurge on a spider paper punch and use leftover gray and black cardstock or other patterned paper to make scary-looking embellishments for your memory book pages.
