Spring Break Scrapbooks

Spring doesn’t officially begin until March 20th, but many families have already hit the road to escape Old Man Winter’s wrath and enjoy sun and fun in warmer climates.

My nephew’s school spring break wrapped up last week. He spent five glorious days surfing, sculpting sand ramps for his Hot Wheels’ cars and snacking on his favorite sandwiches at a popular Hawaiian hot spot. My sister-in-law is now busy crafting a Spring Break 2011 scrapbook to showcase the photos she snapped during their family getaway.

Spring break scrapbooks are a cinch to make, especially if you visit the beach during your vacation. Whether your child is five months old or five years old, capturing his first experience at the beach is definitely scrap worthy. Beach trips yield amazing scrapbook memories, so it is essential that you take your camera along to snap photographic proof of your trip.

Aim to shoot your children’s footprints in the sand or their first encounter chasing waves. Snap shots of them building a sandcastle or sculpting other creations. Some parents document their child’s beachwear from the swimsuit and matching sun hat to little sandals and swimsuit cover-up. Other must-have images include: your child napping under a beach umbrella, watching the sunset, collecting seashells and running after birds. If your children are older photograph them partaking in their favorite beach activities be it reading, tanning, surfing, playing volleyball or flying a kite.

Once you have selected your favorite photos to add to the layout, then consider adding other embellishments, such as sea shells, sand, swatches from beach towels or seaweed. If you didn’t collect memorabilia from your spring break trip to the beach, then accent your layout with store bought embellishments, such as stickers in the shape of palm trees, sandals, beach umbrellas, waves, starfish, sandcastles and beach balls.
