Spring is in the air… and so are record-breaking temperatures.
We’re supposed to hit 75 degrees today. That’s a huge deal when you live in northern Wisconsin.
Of course, with high temps comes the appearance of shorts and… garage sales. The latter can mean some serious savings for scrapbookers.
Garage or yard sales can yield a litany of amazing scrapbook embellishments at rock-bottom prices. While there, look for buttons (even if they are still attached to a cheap shirt or dress), ribbon, beads or charms from old costume jewelry, lace or wrapping paper. All of these items can be added to scrapbook layouts with very little effort.
If you are shopping online head to places like craigslist.com, which often note if items are being sold by an avid scrapbooker. By purchasing from a fellow memory book fan you won’t have to worry about obtaining merchandise that is not archival-safe, acid-free, or photo-safe.
Spring is also a great time of year to snag deals at discount stores. Places like Dollar Tree actually have small sections devoted to scrapbooking. In the spring, they clear out items such as patterned papers, stickers, and rub-ons. While there you can also stock up on cheap glue dots and double-sided tape.
I’m not a huge eBay fan, but my neighbor swears by the online resource to replenish her scrapbooking supplies, such as refill pages, adhesives, eyelets, brads and cardstock in common colors, such as white, black, grey and cream. Internet stores or auction sites like eBay offer both new and used scrapbook products at reduced prices. However, the downside to stocking up on supplies online is that you have to pay for shipping. This can really put a dent in your wallet, especially if you are purchasing a bunch of scrapbook punches. Depending on their size, you could end up paying more for shipping than for the actual item. If you don’t want to be hit with sticker shock when checking out, you are better off looking for online retailers that offer free shipping or flat rate shipping before filling up your virtual shopping cart.
