Don’t throw away that clothing or linen item! Instead beat the stain and get it out with the following tricks and tips.
With any stain, it is important to try to attack it as soon as possible after it happens. Stains can set in, especially if they have been through the dryer.
Red Wine Stain
First apply some salt to the stain. The salt will absorb some of the color. Next, place the item over a bowl or a sink and pour boiling water over the stain. After that, ou can launder the item as usual.
Dirt
Dirt stains are the most common stains here at our house, since we have three active kids and a wooded property that requires maintenance. For dirt stains, I found that the best thing to do is to first brush off any excess dried dirt. Pretreat the stain either with a commercial stain pre-treatment or using some water and dish soap. Soak the item in water with OxyClean and then launder it as usual.
Chocolate Milk/Hot Chocolate
Next up in our house is chocolate milk or hot chocolate stains. When we were on vacation, my daughter literally sat in a pool of hot chocolate (cooled off, thankfully) in her brand new white shorts. It was several days until we could get home to launder them. I soaked those shorts in hot water with OxyClean to get the very much set in stain out. It took three soaks, but after that, I laundered the shorts as usual, and they were perfect.
Blood
Fresh blood stains will come out easily when you run cold water over the stain before washing. I’ve also found that a little hand washing with shampoo seems to do the trick to get out a fresh blood stain. If the stain is dried or set in, you’ll have to get out that OxyClean again and soak it away.
