Start the Year Right

A new year is a good time to think about our Christian life and our relationship with God. A good place to start could be with Psalm 119. With 176 verses, there are lots of great verses in this psalm, but the ones I am focusing on today and next week are verses 9-16.

In these days of home renovations, renovations of marriage and what people expect from it, we need to think about renovating our lives. There’s not one of us who doesn’t have something that needs to be changed in our lives. The best way to do that is in accordance with God’s Word.

Obviously it is better if we come to God when we are younger. Statistics show that many people come to God as children or teenagers. This is no co-incidence. The older we get the harder it gets to change our ways. We become set in our ways and our habits. That’s why it is so important to teach our children about God and help them come to know Him from an early age.

As I said in another blog, children will listen and learn. They will learn by our example. Children are very quick to pick up any anomalies. They will soon see what is important in our lives and what is not. They will see if you stop to pray when troubles come or not. They will see if you automatically turn to God in good times and in bad.

We need to ensure we are living out our Christian faith. We will never achieve anything though unless we stay attuned to God and reading His Word. Are you like the psalmist says seeking God with all your heart verse 10? Do you pray for God to help you keep his commandments? Do you use God’s Word to help you and keep you from falling into sin? verse 11. The most effective way to refute Satan and temptation is the way Jesus also used – the Word of God, Matthew 4:1-11.
