I made my first scrapbook in 1988. I still have the lavender and white memory book filled with photos and souvenirs from my first cross country road trip, but the interior has seen better days.
Twenty-three years ago scrapbook supplies were not exactly plentiful and they were certainly not as advanced as they are today. One of the biggest issues facing my first scrapbook has to do with the photo corners I used. Many of them simply lost their staying power and have detached from the page leaving my pictures in a heap at the bottom of the layout.
It’s an easy fix. Today, photo squares are readily available and come in a box dispenser. They are still made with clear, double-sided tape; though I’m sure the type of adhesive used today is far better than what was sold more than a quarter century ago. If you are looking for a simple, hassle-free way to keep your pictures on a page, I would highly recommend photo corners.
Another option is to use tape runners. Creative Memories and Vario make these rolls of double-sided photo squares which are mounted inside a reusable dispenser. To use, all you need to do is roll the adhesive squares on to the backs of your pictures or die cuts in the same way you would a double-sided tape pen. The pre-cut squares will then adhere to the photo or embellishment and you can safely place it on your layout without worrying about future shifting.
In 1988 I don’t remember having the option to purchase decorative embellishment tape, but would consider using it now to fix some of my compromised layouts. The tape features the same width as regular Scotch tape and is available in two-yard rolls. It includes an adhesive on one side and a decorative pattern on the other. The tape is designed to create quick and easy frames around photos. Just fasten pieces on all four sides of your image and press down firmly to avoid unwanted movement.
