Strengthen Your Marriage with Temple Attendance

One great way to strengthen your marriage is regular temple attendance together. There are times in everyone’s life that it becomes difficult to find the time to attend the temple, but by making it a priority, and scheduling in advance, you will be able to strengthen your marriage and your family. Here are five tips for having regular temple attendance as a couple.

1) You may want to decide on a set date each month. You may find that the first Wednesday of the month works for you, or maybe it is easier over the weekend. Once you find a time that works for you, stick with it and continue to go on a regular basis.

2) You may want to take the time to go out to dinner afterwards. If you have a cafeteria in your temple, you may want to spend some extra time with your spouse there. It is pleasant to have the time along together in such a spiritual place.

3) Set a realistic goal on how often you want to attend the temple. Before my husband and I had children, we attended the temple weekly. Once we had a child, and move farther away from the temple it was less often. Now that we are within half an hour of a temple, our goal is once a month.

4) As you drive to the temple keep your discussion upbeat and positive. It is important to begin the night together with a prayer. It is important to prepare yourself throughout the day for the trip to temple.

5) Take the time to remind yourself of your temple covenants to each other by completing sealings on a regular basis.

It is important to nurture your marriage spiritually on a regular basis. Regular temple attendance is an excellent way to do this. It will also help to teach your children the importance of attending the temple.
