Striiv Brings Gaming and Fitness Together

There is a new device that is said to take what Wii Fit does in your home, and turn into something motivating and useful when you are outside the home. It is called Striiv, a portable device that can measure your movements and provide you with rewards based on your level of activity. The cost will be $99.

Similar to a pedometer, it can track your steps. But you can also set goals and play games with friends. It is taking the world of gaming (including social gaming) to a whole different level.

The hope is to reach those who wouldn’t normally exercise. I do have to admit that until Wii Fit came along, I wasn’t very motivated to exercise. But Wii Fit brought the fun into it.

Apparently the device begins with a game called “MyLand.” This is an enchanted island, comparable to FarmVille (Facebook). You earn energy by movement and that energy can be used in your game to grow things.

There are also daily challenges such as walking the same number of stairs that are in the Eiffel Tower or taking a certain number of steps in a certain amount of time.

It isn’t available for sale yet but you can get more information on this product by visiting their website.

I have to admit that I am more than intrigued by this portable device. It sounds like a lot of fun and a great way to motivate someone to make fitness a priority.

Gaming and fitness can be a great way to get you off the couch. Who doesn’t like to play a good game? When you can combine the two, you learn that fitness really can be fun.

I plan on waiting on this one, however. I would like to first see it get off the ground and going and then read some reviews on it.

What do you think about combining gaming with fitness?
