Studying the Scriptures Makes My Day Better

I have found that the difference between a good day and an okay day hinges on whether or not I read my scriptures first thing in the morning. I find that making sure I am up and reading in the mornings really gives me an extra boost throughout my day. It can be difficult for me to get up early enough to do this, especially when I’ve got an early appointment somewhere, but I really can tell the difference when I’ve studied and when I haven’t.

As I evaluate my scripture study habits, I know that there is a lot of room for improvement. It is so easy to let my mind wander all over the place, and read the same sentence three times, because I’m not paying close enough attention to what I’m reading. My children also seem to love to climb in my lap as soon as I pick up my Book of Mormon. My fifteen-month-old loves the way the pages crumple, so that can make it difficult as well.

My point is that I am blessed for trying, even though I am not the scholar that I want to be. A measure of peace comes into my life every time I open the scriptures and read the words of the prophets. I am so grateful for what the scriptures have taught me. At times of great personal struggle, I have been able to turn to the scriptures for comfort. I have been able to learn from the examples of the people in the scriptures.

One thing that I really want to pass on to my children is my appreciation of the scriptures. I know that a knowledge of and a love for the scriptures can really make a difference when you are going through a hard time. I hope through seeing me read the scriptures every day, and by reading the scriptures to them every day that my children will have the same love for the scriptures that I do. How has studying the scriptures blessed your life?
