Summer Organizing

left

I get the concept behind spring cleaning, but in my world, summer is primetime for purging.

I’ve been trying to reorganize and deep clean my scrapbooking space for months; however, I simply haven’t had the time to undertake such a monumental task.

Which is not to say that I have this humungous crafting space to create all my scrapbook masterpieces. Rather, I’m just a slob.

If you’ve been dreading the idea of organizing your scrapbooking area, there’s no time like the present to get it done. Let summer’s extra long days inspire you to open your windows, dump out the junk you don’t need, and straighten up the materials you love.

When you are done you can bask in the fruits of your labor. For example, by knowing what supplies you have, you can avoid wasting money buying duplicates. Having your scrapbooking items nearly organized also makes it easier to find coordinating elements for your layouts. What’s more, by doing a complete inventory of your stash you can better organize your entire space.

Start by sorting through your paper, cardstock and embellishments, including stickers, beads, charms, eyelets, brads, ribbon, stamps, chipboard and die cuts. Next, collect your markers, chalk, and ink pads, and place them in a designated spot. Finally, store your tools, such as decorative scissors, templates, and die cut machines in a separate area that’s easy to access.

During the organizational process you may be tempted to spend a ton of money purchasing stylish storage containers. Personally, I use three-ring binders. They are not only functional, but they are also quite affordable and very easy to use. A large three-ring binder filled with plastic page protectors is ideal for storing paper or stickers. Moreover, you can keep adding pages to accommodate large collections of stickers and you can flip through your stash quickly and efficiently, especially if you use the pages typically designed to store baseball cards.
