Solidifying a venue, guest list and menu are high on a summer party to-do list. However, there’s more to seasonal entertaining than simply finding a place to party and deciding what you will serve your guests to eat.
The following are some easy and affordable ideas to keep in mind when creating a summer party checklist:
Inexpensive Centerpieces
Keep it cheap and simple. Look around your yard for inexpensive centerpiece materials, like palm, flax leaves, wildflowers, or even a small branch from a tree, and use them as part of the party centerpieces. You can place flowers and greens in mason jars or buckets and place them strategically on tables. They will add an effortless quality to your outdoor gathering.
Hanging Decorations
Hang decorations and flowers wherever you can. If you have a large tree, consider hanging a flower-filled umbrella from it. Simply fill the umbrella with flowers and vines that cascade over the side. If you have an inexpensive canopy gazebo, swag fabric from the center out to the sides to transform it into a classy sitting area.
Keep Bugs at Bay
To keep unwanted pests from ruining your outdoor party, light some citronella candles around the perimeter of your yard. Also, consider covering food with decorative fly screens. You can even put a mosquito net around your entire buffet table. It will keep out the bugs while adding a romantic touch to the table.
Table Weights
Don’t let wind spoil your outdoor summer party. Instead, make some affordable and attractive table weights. Just wrap strands of colored raffia lengthwise around a 3 1/2-inch-by-2-inch piece of cardboard several times. Next, thread a 6-inch piece through the top; knot to create top of tassel, then knot again at ends to form loop. When that’s done, cut the raffia bottom to create fringe and place a fishing weight inside the bundle toward the top. Next, tie a knot below the weight using more raffia. Make four tassels total. Finally, sew decorative buttons onto each corner of the tablecloth, and hang tassels by the loops.
