Summer Travel: Wet and Wild Family Fun

Looking for some cool summer fun? Then you’ve come to the right blog. Continuing our “Summer Travel” series, today we turn the spotlight on all things wet and wild. There are a host of new additions popping up at water parks across the country. From water coasters to wave pools the following are the hottest new trends making a splash with children of all ages.

Here’s what’s new this summer:

Boulder Beach at Silverwood in Idaho is making not one, not two, but four additions to its water park—-a VIP Cabana Island, a 40-foot tall raft ride, a new wave pool and kid’s area.

Six Flags Kentucky Kingdom—Make way for the “Deluge.” It’s a new hydromagnetic water coaster that takes guests in rafts through a series of tunnels and turns. The park is also doubling the size of its Splashwater Kingdom with a Buccaneer Beach play area for tots.

Hersheypark—Located in Hershey, Pennsylvania, the park is celebrating its 100th anniversary with a new boardwalk. The massive water park includes four slides, a kid’s play area and wave pool.

Holiday World—There’s something undeniably cool about vacationing in Santa Claus, Indiana in the middle of summer. And this summer marks the debut of Bakuli-a seven-story water ride that takes guests in complete darkness through a 9-foot-wide tunnel before dumping them into a brightly colored bowl, then through another tunnel.

Blue Bayou Waterpark and Dixie Landin’ in Baton Rouge, is also adding a bowl ride called Voodoo, which is 80 feet tall and completely enclosed.

Magic Springs and Crystal Falls—Located in Hot Springs, Arkansas this water park is giving guests a chance to cool off in what is being hailed as the state’s largest water slide complex. The new additions include: three new speed slides, four tube slides and a new play pool.

WaterWorks at King’s Dominion in Doswell, Virginia has just added a second wave pool, a 65-foot Tornado water ride, and new log flume.

SeaWorld in San Antonio, Texas recently added a new ride called “Journey to Atlantis.” It is part roller coaster and part water ride and reaches speeds of 49 m.p.h.

Six Flag’s Great Escape and Splashwater Kingdom in Queensbury, New York has added a new water thrill ride called “Tornado” to its summer line up. The ride shuttles guests in cloverleaf rafts through tunnels and into a giant funnel.
