Super Crazy Super Bowl Stunt

Did you hear the news? The Super Bowl between the Indianapolis Colts and the Chicago Bears was seen by 93.2 million people, making it the third most-watched TV broadcast in history. Only the 1982 “M-A-S-H” finale and the 1996 Super Bowl between the Dallas Cowboys and Pittsburgh Steelers had more viewers.

One of those viewers was a teenager living in Minnesota whose family has a tradition of running around their yard during the big game. Personally, I think it’s a wacky tradition, but not a completely crazy concept… unless of course it is –17 degrees below zero when you’re executing it.

On Super Bowl Sunday, the 18-year-old joined other family members to watch the game on what was one of the state’s coldest days in history. When the halftime show started the teen’s father told him that it was too cold to carry out the family tradition. But, according to news reports, the high school senior didn’t listen. Rather, he stepped outside in his T-shirt and jeans—and ran BAREFOOT around the block.

Brown estimated he was outside for less than five minutes, but when he returned inside his feet began to swell and blister. He told local news reporters that the pain was excruciating.

“I consider myself having a high pain threshold, and this was just so 10 out of 10,” he said. “I was, like, chewing on a towel.”

Medical records show the teen was treated for second-degree frostbite on both feet at a local burn center. A specialist there said the boy was put on crutches and pain medication, and should be fine in a few weeks. Doctors also used the opportunity to remind others: “Cold weather is just as dangerous as pouring scalding water on your feet.”

As for the teen (who claims he is a straight-A student), he chalked up his actions to “teenage arrogance” and hopes others will learn from his mistake.

I’ve heard of crazy Super Bowl stunts before, but this may be one of the nuttiest. What do you think?
