Super Scrapbook Savers

Most people don’t realize that they can create a scrapbook without actually buying a tradtional 12 by 12 memory book. If you are scrapping on a very tight budget, then consider embellishing a standard binder, photo album or a plain hardcover journal with stickers, stamps, die-cuts or patterned paper. Another option is to punch holes in cardstock and bind the paper together with pretty ribbon to make a mini scrapbook.

The only problem you may run into when fashioning together a budget DIY scrapbook is that your page may not have the same protective covers found in traditional scrapbooks. If you decide to forgo placing page protectors over your layouts, just remember to use strong adhesive on your photos and embellishments, so they don’t fall out of your book.

Homemade embellishments are another way to save on scrapbooking. Fortunately, you don’t need to rely on scrapbook supply shops in order to decorate your layouts. Most homes are filled with items that can easily be turned into unique scrapbook embellishments, such as:

*Old greeting cards

*Buttons

*Ribbons

*Bows

*Scrap fabric

*Paint chips

*Postcards

*Beads or sequins from outgrown clothes

*Kids’ artwork

You could also save money by making your own scrapbook paper. One way to create one-of-a-kind paper is to paint designs on plain cardstock. You could also piece together scraps from leftover patterned paper to create a completely new background for your layouts. Other options include:

1. Crumpling a piece of plain scrapbook paper, and then smoothing it out to create added texture

2. Use chalk to add an abstract designs to plain paper

3. Sand cardstock to give it a weathered look

4. Create your own border by handwriting a favorite quote around the periphery of the page

5. Use different colored pencils to jazz up your journaling block

What other budget-saving advice do you have for scrappers who want their books to look amazing without having to spend a ton of money?
