Tabloid Reporter Nabs Brooke Shields’ Mom

Talk about taking it too far! Brooke Shields is angered that her mother was checkout out of the New Jersey facility she lives in by a reporter and photographer allegedly from the National Enquirer.

Sheilds’ mother, Teri, is 75 years old and suffers from dementia. It seems like I remember reading an article not long ago in the National Enquirer in which Teri was lamenting the fact that she rarely saw Brooke or her children. Reports are that the reporter posed as a friend and took Teri out of the facility to get a story. The Old Tappan police were called at approximately 3:00 p.m. last Thursday when a supervisor noticed Teri had been checked out. Teri was found in a restaurant next door to the Old Tappan, New Jersey assisted living center where she is a resident, talking to the reporter and photographer. The police reported she was fine and walked with one of the officers back to the facility.

The police have not made an arrest, but as you might imagine, Shields is NOT happy. When interviewed by PEOPLE magazine, Shields said, “My mother Teri Shields has been diagnosed with dementia. For her safety, she has temporarily been in a senior living facility, a very difficult decision for me. Late Thursday afternoon, I was alerted by Old Tappan Police that my mother had been signed out of the facility by two reporters of the National Enquirer … who falsely claimed they were friends of hers.”

Shields claims the reporters took her out of the facility, looking for a “tabloid story.” She said that fact that these two journalists took advantage of a woman who is suffering from dementia is “reprehensible and disgusting.” She also added, “I intend to take every lawful action against all who were involved or who authorized this despicable act.” So far, Shields has not filed any criminal complaint, but who could blame her if she did?

Police believe that Teri was familiar with the reporter and are investigating who allowed her to leave the facility and under what circumstances.
