Taking Advantage of a Springlike Day

It has been unseasonably warm here lately. Today I think the high was 56, it’s February in Utah but please don’t tell old man winter, I’m ok with him skipping us this year. It was so warm today that I got a bit of a spring cleaning bug.

Now I know this won’t last but I do want to enjoy it while I can. There are several things that I can do when the weather is nice that just makes my home seem that much cleaner. It is nice to have these little things done when it gets cold again, kind of like the light at the end of the tunnel.

Today I opened the whole house, all the doors and windows and just let this wonderful air blow through. I couldn’t do it for long but by the time it was chilly the house felt and smelled better.

While the house was open I washed the windows on the storm door and both sliding glass door. Now the sun can shine in brightly even when it’s cold outside.

Next I gathered up all the rugs and the dogs bedding and took them outside and gave them a good shake, or in some cases beat them with a broom. Then I hung them over the clothesline and railing so they could absorb some of that fresh air and sunshine.

It was also a perfect day to wash curtains. The drapes at my sliding glass doors take a beating, usually at the bottom from a small, often wet and muddy dog. I threw them in the washer and grabbed them out of the dryer as soon as they were dry and rehung them. No wrinkles that way, because for me, it’s never a good day to iron!

I also took my houseplants out for a little shot of direct sunlight. Not too long because it’s still a little cold for them but a half an hour in the sun has perked them up tremendously.

When the weather is nice I like to take little bites out of the big job of maintaining the house, this way when spring comes, most of the cleaning will already be done.
