Tasty Cake Craft Idea

Making this tasty craft project is a great way to brighten up any day, but it is also perfect for birthday parties and other special occasions.

Items Needed:

  • Miniature ice cream cones
  • Your favorite cake mix
  • Eggs, water, and oil (as directed on cake mix package)
  • Frosting
  • Sprinkles

Directions:

Mix up the cake mix according to package directions. Carefully pour cake batter into cones, filling them about 2/3 of the way full. Bake at the temperature recommended on the box, following the time guidelines for mini cupcakes. If no time is listed for mini cupcakes, use the time for regular cupcakes, but begin checking on your treats about 5-10 minutes sooner than the time suggested.

When a toothpick poked into the center comes out clean, they are done. Some of the cake mix will run over the sides of the cones, but that’s okay. It will look like drips of ice cream.

Remove the cupcakes from the oven and allow to cool thoroughly. Frost the cupcakes using swirling motions, to help enhance the ice cream cone look, and dab a little bit of frosting onto the drips. Top with sprinkles. Place the treats in a new, clean shirt box or a deep baking pan to keep them from falling over.

These treats are as cute as they are tasty, and your kids will love making them and eating them.

Variation:

You can do the same thing with regular size ice cream cones (try colored ones!), using the directions above. Simply adjust the baking time to that of regular cupcakes.

*I prefer to make these treats when they are going to be served at home, because they can be a little awkward to transport. If you are taking these treats somewhere, place in a box and add bunched up tissue paper between each cone for better balance.
