Do you ever get asked questions by others about your relationship? Wayne and I do. People are always either curious, impressed, or appalled that we’ve been together for as long as we have and since such a young age.
Mostly it’s younger couples wanting to know how (and sometimes why) we’ve stayed together. (By “younger” I don’t necessarily mean younger than us in age so much as in their years together.) However, sometimes even older couples with a couple of decade’s worth of anniversaries on us pose us questions.
When I was running my mom to various appointments, or spending time with her at the hospice, I met some interesting folks. Some were still married, some were widowed, some were remarried, but inevitably they all asked questions.
Not a lot of them, rarely the same one, but they all made me stop and think about just how much of my relationship I take for granted without meaning to –or that I take too seriously when I shouldn’t.
I compiled a list of some of those questions. See how many you can answer.
The Questions
1. Do you remember if you wore perfume back when you first started dating? (Cologne for the gentlemen amongst us.) What kind? Do you remember what kind of perfume/cologne your future spouse donned?
2. Do you remember your first fight? If so, do you remember what it was you fought about?
3. Do you remember your first dinner? What was the restaurant’s name? What dish did you order?
4. Do you remember your first kiss? Who kissed who first? How many dates had you had? (Or how many weeks had you been dating?)
5. Do you remember the first time you said sorry –and why you were saying it?
6. Do you remember the first time your future husband or wife made you laugh and why?
7. Do you remember the moment you fell in love with them?
8. Do you remember the first time you exchanged “I love yous?” Who was the first to say it?
9. If you registered for wedding gifts, do you remember where? Was it one store or more than one?
10. If you registered for china, do you remember the name of the pattern you picked?
