If you plan to fly over the Thanksgiving weekend and find yourself dealing with the unfortunate fate of sitting in a middle seat—take heart—and a burger, or a Frosty, or French fries, or even some chicken nuggets…
Fast food chain Wendy’s just announced that as part of an advertising campaign for its new gift card program it is giving away free $1 cards for middle-seat passengers at nine airports over Thanksgiving weekend.
The idea of gift cards may not be new at powerhouse fast food chain McDonald’s, but they’re new for Wendy’s (the third-largest hamburger chain), which has up until now relied on gift certificates.
Okay all you middle-seat airline passengers here’s how the promotion works: Wendy’s will give away 80,000 $1 cards to any passenger who can provide a ticket showing they were assigned to a middle seat on an aircraft for travel anytime between now and Sunday. The only catch–the promotional cards can only be picked up at Wendy’s restaurants at the nine participating restaurants, which include: Port Columbus International Airport, LaGuardia Airport in New York, Dallas-Fort Worth International Airport, Bush Intercontinental Airport and Hobby Airport in Houston, Phoenix Sky Harbor Airport, Sea-Tac in Seattle, Washington, and Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport.
The company says the giveaway is part of a promotion for their new double-melt hamburger that has pepper jack cheese, cheddar sauce, bacon and sliced jalapenos between two hamburger patties. (Unfortunately your $1 gift card will not cover the cost of that burger… however, the burger chain offers a lovely dollar menu.) And, not unlike airlines frequent flier programs, Wendy’s says customer’s that buy the new gift cards will be able to go online and see their transactions, check their balance, and participate in a rewards program that can be used with the card.
Considering you could be stuck in between a smelly seatmate and a crying baby for six hours, the $1 gift card is not a bad consolation.
