THAT Mom Strikes Again

Recent phone conversation with friend, who has a 3-year-old and a 3-month-old:

Her: “Halloween is less than two weeks away and I still don’t have costumes for the kids!”

Me: “Halloween is less than two weeks away? Wow! That means T’s had her costume for more two months now.”

Her: Click

The curse of being THAT mom; it comes with the territory.

I wear my THAT mom badge proudly because to be quite honest, I have been where my friend is now with kids, no costumes, and Halloween right around the corner. And frankly, it sucks.

By now stores are sold out of the costumes your kids want and the ones that they might be, possibly, perhaps, conceivably bribed into wearing, don’t come in their size. Their sizes were stocked, but that was back in August when the THAT moms of the world were paying full price, so they wouldn’t have to deal with what the NOT THAT moms of the world are facing during this week before Halloween.

But, fear not, NOT THAT moms of the world, in the spirit of Halloween giving, I’ve decided to list the top-selling costumes of 2010 (courtesy of Spirit Halloween), in case your child is still stumped as to what he plans to hit the streets wearing on October 31st. You may not be able to get your hands on premade versions of the following costumes, but they can at least serve as inspiration for getups fashioned with items that you have around the house.

According to Spirit Halloween, the number one Halloween costume of 2010 is… the cast of MTV’s “Jersey Shore.” Believe it or not, the store is selling The Situation, Snooki and Pauly D costumes.

Rounding out the Top 10:

*Lady Gaga (meat dress optional)

*Toy Story 3 characters (Woody, Buzz and Rex are top sellers)

*Gumby

*Sesame Street characters (Elmo is the most popular)

*20th anniversary editions of Star Wars character costumes, such Princess Leia and Darth Vader

*Mario and Luigi from Super Mario Brothers

*Avatar’s Neytiri

*Iron Man “War Machine”

*Littlest Pet Shop Monkey

*Wow! Wow! Wubzy

Does your child have his Halloween costume yet? Did you buy it or are you planning to make it?
