The Day After Thanksgiving Part I

We had some big plans for the day after Thanksgiving, none of which involved “Black Friday” shopping. I was very tempted to sleep in but I knew that we had better things to do with our day than sleeping until noon!

After tagging our Christmas tree six days previous, I had planned for our small little family to drive out to the tree farm and bring our tree home. I thought it would be best if we got started quite early, but it was not so easy getting my “night shift working husband” to awake. So I took our son downstairs and got him a snack while I made tea and buttered homemade pumpkin bread leftover from our Thanksgiving celebration. Once the tea was done brewing, our son was able to lure my husband out of bed with the promise of hot tea by saying. “Daddy tea!” over and over again. We enjoyed our tea and sweet bread (which was a rather nice start to our morning), grabbed the saw and some robe and headed out to the farm. Upon arrival, we were greeted and given a saw and a carpet square. We walked …. well I waddled and our son ran … across hills of trees until we came to the one we tagged. With the help of our son, my husband cut our tree down and carried it back to be wrapped and tied to the roof of our car for our twenty minute drive home. Once the tree was secure in the tree stand and had been watered, I made our daily omelet and we all took a break from the tree to eat. My husband thought we were done, but I quickly let him know that we had more to do by sending him down to the basement to fetch the tote with Christmas decorations.
