The Divorcing! and Married?

Dermot Mulroney and Catherine Keener

In my blog about independent films of 1997, I mentioned one of my favorite indie actresses, Catherine Keener. I knew she and husband Dermot Mulroney had separated, but on June 8th, the couple made it official. Divorces papers stating “irreconcilable differences” were filed by Mulroney in the Los Angeles Superior Court. The two, who wed in 1990, have one child, 7 year old son Clyde Keener Mulroney. Mulroney asked for joint legal and physical custody of his son.

Catherine is a great actress who has only recently been formally recognized as such with two Best Supporting Actress nods (one in playing Maxine Lund in 2000’s Being John Malkovich and one for playing Harper Lee in 2006’s Capote). Personally, my favorite movies of hers are Box of Moonlight, Living in Oblivion (about a director filming an independent film in which she stars), and Walking and Talking. I remember seeing Dermot first in Young Guns, but I truly loved him as the romantic lead in My Best Friend’s Wedding. Catherine and Dermot have starred together in several joint ventures including Living in Oblivion, Survival Quest, and Lovely and Amazing.

Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber

These two have been dating for two years and Watts is pregnant with the couple’s first child. But the real question is – are they married? Schreiber told Entertainment Tonight as he entered the Radio City Music for the Tony Awards “We are married. You got it first. Break the story!”

But, backstage at the event, they both denied they had tied the knot. So, was Schreiber just messing around with the media? Schreiber, who was nominated for a Best Actor award, even joked that “Tony” would be a good name for the baby. The couple says they don’t know the sex of the baby, which is due in August.

On a side note, Schreiber plays the estranged boyfriend of Catherine Keener’s character in Walking and Talking.
