The Farmer’s Market Part I

This summer has brought wonderful opportunities to spend time outside enjoying some of the things make the Midwest a great place to live. Because of the early start of the growing season, our local farmer’s market boasted fresh homegrown produce early in the season as well.

I have always been a huge fan of the farmer’s market. Being able to get high quality produce and other goods that are produced locally improves my outlook on life in general. Needless to say, I have been taking full advantage of our Saturday morning farmer’s market this summer.

Unlike my typical errand running, my Saturday trips to the farmer’s market were children free. I have been telling my husband for months that I need a break from the kiddos and when my sister asked me to meet her at the farmer’s market without the children so we, the mommies, could have a little break, I was more than ready. The trick of course is trying to get out of the house without the children waking up (at six thirty in the morning) and begging to go too. The first attempt went well. My son stayed asleep the entire time I was gone and my daughter, while awake, was content being held by daddy. I had so much fun with my sister that we went again the following week (going weekly was something I never had done before). When I left the house both kids were asleep as was my husband but while I was at the farmer’s market I got a call from my husband. Apparently the baby was getting fussy and he wanted me to try to hurry if I could. While I had fun with my sister again, it is a little troubling knowing that my daughter is unhappy and missing me….
