The Forgetful Mom

Before I had children I never needed a to-do list. I rarely forgot a thing. I never lost my keys, misplaced a jacket, or forgot an appointment. I never accidently threw away a cell phone. Things never seemed to vanish into thin air. I never had to hide things out of reach of tiny hands. Never had things break at random. Then I had kids and it was a whole new ballgame.

After four kids there are times I feel like my brain is fried. I sometimes cannot remember the words I am trying to say much less where my keys are. I have found that many moms experience the same thing. Homeschooling keeps a mom young and smarter than a fifth grader for the most part but distraction and busyness can lead to memory loss. Well, not medically speaking but I find I become forgetful and ditzy with the more distraction I have to deal with.

Let me illustrate my point:

I accidently threw away my cell phone after coming home from a long day at the apple orchard and dinner. I only thought about checking the garbage can after the garbage was picked up. In fact, it was about 30 seconds after it was picked up I realized I was holding my phone as I threw away a bunch of junk.

I threw my keys in the recycling bin because I was holding them while cleaning a few things out of the car to go in the recycling bin. Thankfully, I looked in there before it was too late.

I picked up a thumb drive that I stored 2 gigs of information on to bring to the computer I wanted to upload the files. In the middle of it my child needed me and now it is missing. I don’t even remember putting it down.

I could go on. But I won’t. Tell me I am not alone. Please.
