The Joys Of Making Your Bed

Do you make your bed every day? I never used to but when I started following Flylady’s baby steps that was one thing she said to do every day. So I started making my bed. At first I thought it was pointless, I was just getting back in that same bed in a few hours, but I did it anyway. Now I do it without thinking and it makes my room so much nicer.

The little things we do to make our home more pleasant really do pay off in the long run. Making the bed every day doesn’t seem earth shattering and it‘s not, but it does make a difference. Every day after work I go into my room to change out of my work clothes and put on something comfy for lounging around the house.

No matter what the rest of the house looks like I can walk into my bedroom and it’s like a little oasis of order. Because the bed is made I’m more likely to keep the room straightened up. My work clothes can be worn more than once before they need washing, I work in an office. Before I started making my bed I would come home, change and throw my clothes over the end of the bed or on the dresser. Eventually they would wind up on the floor so into the hamper they would go. This not only added to the mess but created lots more laundry.

Now that my bed is made I take my clothes off and hang them up. Just that one little thing that only takes five minutes sets the neatness tone of my bedroom and motivates me to keep it neat. It’s wonderful after working all day to come home to a neat house. The evening is so much nicer if the house is already in order. Now I need to find something, like making the bed, to do in all the other rooms to motivate me to keep them clean.
