The Marriage Week in Review – October 14-20

Good morning! Welcome to Saturday, October 21, 2006 and the last week before we return to Daylight Savings Time. I’ll post another reminder in next week’s week in review. It’s been a busy week here in the Marriage blog and we’ve expanded to add some topics on dating and engagement. We’re always trying to shake it up and to add to our content, so if there’s a topic we’re not covering and that you’d like to see us cover, feel free to drop us a note and let us know!

So without further ado, here is our week in review!

Saturday, October 14

In Internet Romance: In All the Old Unfamiliar Places we addressed the arrival of the Internet in Iraq and how the changes may be affecting the very conservative country. There are some safety measures that everyone should employ when it comes to Internet dating and there is a learning curve that the country and the people are undergoing, but there are about 200,000 signed up on the state-owned Internet service. Relationships are a Two-Person Thing and it’s important to recognize that it takes two to make a relationship, keep a relationship healthy and to avoid problems in the relationship.

Sunday, October 15

In The First Date we talked about how to spice up a date and get acquainted with someone. While movies are fun, they are about going to see a film and not so much about getting to know another person. In What is a Blind Date? We discussed what a blind date is and how they are arranged. Blind dates are not always the best way to go to meet someone, but that doesn’t stop them from happening. In Dating Tips we offered the pros and cons to the choices that you can make when it comes to dates, first dates and more; for example, choosing a neutral location can promote getting to know each other while not putting pressure one person or another.

Monday, October 16

In Relationship Problems we discussed the fact that people on the outside can have an easier job of identifying other couples and sometimes it’s hard to diagnose your own relationship because you are too close. In Relationship Rescue we discussed how to identify and see specialists who can help you identify and repair problems. In Relationship Help we talked about the fact that different help can help different people and discovering the relationship help that works for the individuals involved is important.

Tuesday, October 17

In Ideas & Romance we looked into the fact that romance ideas sell books, magazines and books more than sex does. In Five Tips for the First Date Sherry offers some great tips in how to help avoid the nerve-wracking anxiety associated with going on a first date. In Unhealthy Relationships we talk about how relationships can enrich us and make us better people, but that unhealthy relationships can hurt us and it’s important to recognize them. In Dream Dates we talked about defining the dreams we each have and what expectations we take with us into dating.

Wednesday, October 18

In the Jealous Single Friend, Sherry tackled the issue that sometimes when we get married, our single friends can have struggles of their own when it comes to your being involved in an intimate relationship and they miss the days of when you were single together. Tips on Dating addressed that everyone has a different idea of what a date can be and you can never have too many tips to help you discover the right date for you. In Dating Tips for Women, we targeted our tips towards women specifically since women and men have different expectations. In Playing Matchmaker we talked about the fact that every family has someone who wants to play matchmaker and tries to get their single family members involved with other people.

Thursday, October 19

In Senior Matchmaking we discussed the fact that playing matchmaker to older adults who’ve already had a life experience with relationships can be a double-edged sword. In Tips for Flirting Sherry talked about feeling like the shy guy or the bashful lady and that flirting isn’t as hard as you might think it is. In Single Women we talked about the provocative image that pop culture associates with single women.

Friday, October 20

In Marriage Fitness: 10 Ways to Greater Intimacy in Your Marriage we talked about the fact that every relationship has levels of intimacy and that improving and strengthening your intimacy can help you make your marriage fit and healthy. In Workplace Romances Sherry discussed the fact that it’s questionable whether or not you should get involved with someone you work with and that 75% of people working human resources stated that there are no regulations against workplace romance. In Don’t Let Helplessness Control Your Happiness we found that helplessness is a major contributor to marriage conflict, disagreements and depression. Finally, Friday Marriage Funnies – What They Have to Say About Marriage we talked about some of the funnier quotes from different comedians and celebrities regarding the state of matrimony.
