The Most Simple Scrapbook Series-The Finishing Touches

Now that you have purchased your supplies, made a title page, and learned how to place those photos on the page, it is time to document what you are scrapbooking and finish up that very first scrapbook.

Now, the fun part for me when it comes to scrapbooking is journaling and labeling. What good is a scrapbook if there are no names, dates, or stories to go with the pictures??

To keep it simple, you can just write names and dates. That is easy. However, so much of scrapbooking is about the stories behind the photos. In my opinion, journaling is what sets apart a scrapbook from a plain old photo album.

Tips on how to journal on your page:

1. Journal directly onto the main paper. This is fine to do for that beginning scrapbook. Write about why you took the photo, why you love the photo so much, or who was there.

2. Journal on a coordinating piece of cardstock, but choose a different color. Then, cut around just the words you wrote, and then matte that in yet another color. This will help draw the eye to those special words. An example of this is found here.

3. There are so many journaling tags out there that you can purchase. This really isn’t necessary for that very first scrapbook, but sometimes they are just too cute to pass up! Plus, many of them have lines that make it easier to write in a straight line. If this is a problem for you, you might want to consider buying some.

4. Get creative with where you journal! Try journaling around the photo itself to create a frame with your words, or in a spot on the page that will be more interesting.

Last, when you are done with a page, slip it into those sheet protectors, and place it into the album. Voila!

Scrapbooking does not have to be complicated. You can always keep it simple until you feel more confident with trying something new. I can’t wait to hear how your very first scrapbook comes together. Good luck!
