The Most Simple Scrapbook Series-The First Page

Now that you have your supplies that I mentioned in my previous post, What to purchase for the Most Simple Scrapbook, it is time to get started putting that album together!

In the beginning, I used to scrapbook in sequential order. This is a good way to start for beginning scrapbookers. It is helpful to be able to see your album evolving and being completed right before your eyes!

Start by putting your photos in sequential order. This will help you be able to walk away from the project and come right back to it where you left off.

Second, think of what you would like to title your scrapbook on that first page. For example, one album I have is of an entire year’s worth of photos from when I was a newlywed. I simply titled it “2004 Memories” and put one photo on the page with that title. That was the intro of my album. You do not necessarily have to choose the first photo in your stack to be the photo on that first page. You might want to choose your favorite photo from the group. Or, choose a photo that will represent the album as a whole. For other ideas of what to do with that first page, go here.

For the title page, you should matte the main photo. To matte, means to frame a photo with cardstock. The simplest way is to place the photo on the cardstock with your adhesive, and then cut an even square around the photo. It looks nice to matte in a color that will coordinate with the color of the page itself. Black or white are always great to use as your matte for pictures.

Next, using your alphabet stickers, spell out your title on the same color cardstock you have chosen to matte your photo with. Cut evenly around your title until you have a border for your title as well.

Last, pick a solid color of cardstock that coordinates with your title and matte, and use that cardstock as the main page. Stick the title on with your Title page photo underneath. Your title page is done! Here is a picture of my title page from one of my very first scrapbooks:

Now, check back for my next post on how to continue with your album, and tips for arranging photos on a page.
