The Pets Blog Week in Review for Apr 30 – May 6

Good morning, Families.com! Last week we bid farewell to April and Hello! to May. As usual, here’s the recap of what Aimee and myself wrote about.

Monday, April 30

“Aimee? Courtney? Where are you girls?”

Day off! Aimee had lots of preps underway for her upcoming cross-country moving trek. (See under May 2 for more on that.) I had family in town leaving that day. We got back on track Tuesday, though…

Tuesday, May 1

When I was growing up I was taught to leave a basket of flowers on a neighbor’s door to celebrate May Day. But I decided to do something a little different this year, hence Murphy’s May Day Morning Walk. Aimee’s always educating us with really great useful medical pet info. Sometimes it applies to emergency situations, sometimes to every day life, and sometimes it could be applied to both, like in How to Restrain a Pet.

Wednesday, May 2

Like I mentioned earlier, Aimee’s gearing up for her big cross-country move. In When They Know Something’s Up, Aimee ponders how much Lally and Moose are aware of the changes coming, because Lally in particular has been watching her a little more keenly. On this day in 1933 an international sensation was born when a newspaper ran a story about a couple who had witnessed a strange beast in Loch Ness. That beast has now come to be known as Nessie, Scotland’s beloved “pet” monster.

Thursday, May 3

Because of a local adventure club we belong to, I learned something I didn’t know: Tennessee is home to the nation’s largest elephant sanctuary. I also learned something else I didn’t know from reading Aimee’s Pet First Aid: Dehydration and Circulation blog: I had no idea how informative a pet’s gums could be!

Friday, May 4

Poor Tabby has no idea what a controversy her claws have caused, not only within my own household, but with some Families.com readers. I’m desperate not have her declawed, but I was nervous about trimming her nails for fear I’d nip the quick. However, I’m pleased to report that I did it! I trimmed Tabby’s nails! (And no quicks were nipped in the process!)

Saturday, May 5

I grew up in a family of bird lovers. Way back when I thought birds were boring. However, now I find them immensely interesting. However, I’d feel bad caging one in my home, so I opt for an alternative in Birds, No Cages Required.

Sunday, May 6

Stay tuned … this day starts Be Kind to Animals Week and National Pet Week. More to follow in the week ahead in honor of these!
