The Pets Blog Week in Review for May 7 – May 13

Aimee and her pooches Lally and Moose spent last week on a cross-country trek to get to their new home, so most of the contributions to the Pets Blog are mine I’m afraid.

(In case you’re wondering how Aimee and her crew are doing, I did hear from her once last week. There was a Moose incident during one of the hotel stops involving a pizza delivery that I’m sure she’ll relate somewhere down the line, but other than that the trip seemed to be going well. I’ll be excited for her to return and am looking forward to reading about what other shenanigans she endured.)

Last week (May 6-12) was Be Kind to Animals Week. Did you participate? If so, how? Tell us! Leave a comment on the blog or share your thoughts in the Families.com Family Life/Family Living Pets Forum.

May 6-12 was also National Pet Week. (Popular week for pets last week!) Since the American Veterinary Medical Association and its Auxiliary sponsor the week, pet health is the primary focus. Speaking of, has your pet has her or his check up lately? In The Cat Cottage: Can I Get My Money Back? I shared my woes over having purchased such an extravagant dust collector…er, I mean, pet toy.

Dogs: A Doll’s Best Friend? featured an interview with Christine Verstraete, a miniature dollhouse enthusiast who makes sure her dolls have companions too. Mother’s Day right around the corner prompted Mother’s Day Gifts for Pet Moms.

Yes, Virginia, It Is Possible for Cats and Dogs to Get Along. And for Mr. Meow and Tabby as well! I was feeling more than a little sentimental, humbled, and grateful when I composed Tabby, Murphy, and Mr. Meow: What If…?.

I sent out a Pet Parent Alert: Pet Food Recall Expanded, Could Expand Even More to warn pet owners to double check and see if their pet food might now be on the list of recalled products. I’ve got birds on the brain lately and thought it was neat when I stumbled across International Migratory Bird Day 2007. (Which truly fell on May 12.)

Saturday, May 12

Conservation and respecting the environment was the popular theme of the day. Hence, Mother Ocean Day 2007: Respecting Her Creatures. Just in time for Mother Ocean Day: The Hammerhead Story. A tale of shark-saving heroics. (Okay, that’s stretching it a little, but there was a shark and I like to think I saved it.)
